B1 Squirt update

The B1 squirts are continuing their successful season with an outstanding record of 17-2-3. Recently finishing 2nd place in a tournament in Wadena, MN.

The team played Farmington in the first round and won 5-0. Shots on goal were 42-9. With that win the team moved on to play Moorhead. They beat Moorhead 6-0. Shots on goal were 39-7. Our defense would not let the opposing teams offense come close to their goalie Nick Miller. With that victory behind them they were in the Championship game Sunday afternoon. The championship game was against Woodbury, MN the kids lost in triple overtime with a score of 5-4. The kids skated hard and definitely outplayed Woodbury with shots on goal of 33-22 but fell a little short. Our defense David Cunningham, Caske Owen, Brenden Barthomely and Jake Zengerele played outstanding the entire weekend. The offense did their job and the defense kept the puck from their goalie.

After an exciting weekend the players knew that it was back to league play.

Their first game upon return was against Becker/ Big Lake winning 7-1.

Their next team was Mora. Knowing Mora really wanted to win this against, since North Branch has beat them twice already, once being in a tournament in Duluth were we went on and took 1st place in that tournament. Mora started the game very aggressive. The first period ended with a score of 0-0. Mora then went ahead with a goal 0-1. Nick Lambrecht put us on the board with an awesome goal right over the goalies shoulder. Mora quickly came back in the 2nd period with goal making it 2-1. With a few minutes remaining in the second period, Trent Klatt tied the game. The third period was on its way tied 2-2 with about 5 minutes remaining Calvin Miska broke away from Mora and put the winning goal in. All 3 goals were assisted by David Cunningham earning him a playmaker. Although Mora out shot North Branch 14-24, we still came out on top. Another outstanding game by goalie Nick Miller.

The B1’s recently played Pine City with a victory of 6-0. 2 goals by Trent Klatt, 2 by Cole Johnson, 1 Calvin Miska and 1 by Tommy Toohey. The kids are continuing their winning streak. They have a tough weekend coming up playing Elk River and St Cloud, both with very strong teams. We wish the kids best of luck!!
