The North Branch C Mites competed in the Mora Invitational over the weekend and came away with two impressive victories. The Vikings first opponent was the Raiders of Grantsburg. It didn’t take long for the Vikings to light the scoreboard as Zac Lambrecht took a pass from Dakohta Miska and whistled a wrist shot by the raiders goaltender stretching the back of the net. Miska added a goal of her own later in the period. Joey Cortright and Connor Martineau each contributed to the 6-0 shutout.
However, the story of this game was the Vikings tenacious defense and stubbornness of the Vikings’s goalie Nate Runberg. Connor Hanson, Mason Strong, Blake Herdina and Tristan Labelle all contributed to Runberg’s shutout. This group is improving with every game.
The next opponent the Vikings disposed of was the Cambridge Blue Jackets. Again the Vikings demonstrated a strong defense in their 12-2 victory. Joey Cortright led all scorers punching the disk five times. Danny Wienrauch and Dakohta Miska each added two goals of their own. Connor Martineau was obviously involved in the game scoring once, but assisting on three additional goals. Blaise Fairbanks also blew a shot past an overwhelmed goalie. And it wasn’t hard to figure out Connor Hanson scored his first goal of the year as he pumped his fists with jubilation.
